Jacob now has his own voice and I think that speaking for him has lost its comedic value so there’ll be none of that from here on out.

How do you catch up 2 years of missing blog posts in the life of a 3 year old?

Children have far more milestones in their life than adults and to even attempt to try to remember everything that has happened for him since 2007 would be futile and incomplete at best.

I should probably look at the last post to try and catch myself up but I don’t feel like doing that so….

As with most 3 1/2 year old kids, He’s a walking, talking, mess making, bundle of joy. His speech development is not what it should be because of ear problems, but He got tubes put in his ears on the 21st and has already shown a marked improvement in speech in just 2 days. It’s funny how you unconsciously learn this other language your child is speaking when his ears are messed up. The average person wouldn’t have a clue what he’s saying but somehow his mother and I know what he’s saying most of the time. But in the times we don’t understand him, it can make you wanna pull your hair out. I’m sure it can’t be much fun for him to not be understood either.

Since I’ve had a problem with my right ear for the better part of about 25 years, I know how much (or little) he heard prior to getting the tubes and I’m sure this has to be totally crazy for him. Like most people, I have high hopes that my child will excel in the things I’m reasonably good at and for me, that would be music. So, as you can imagine, an impairment in hearing would be a detriment to those hopes. These are exciting times with fully functional ears!!!

In other news, his mother has informed me that he’ll be starting in a head start program in the relatively near future. I’m sure that won’t hurt his speech development or social skills but they’re gonna need a crowbar to pry him from his mother. He still acts like two different kids depending on which parent he is with and can be quite the mommy’s boy in her presence. In mine, on the other hand, I really couldn’t ask for a more well behaved son. For the most part, he has learned the boundries of what I consider acceptable behavior, so, the kid I get to spend time with is very independent, doesn’t back-talk, and is learning his manners….While with Mom, on the other hand, eh, you get the picture.

So, I guess we’re kinda caught up. No broken bones, no illnesses requiring hospitalization, no DUIs or jailtime, no use of illicit substances or other fun contraband. Pretty much a normal exceptionally cute little boy. (oh yeah, he definitely gets the cute from me!!!)

Where to start? A lot can happen in a baby’s life in almost two months, ya’ know… Ok, not a lot did but it could!

Let’s start with the basics, I’m still adorable at about 27lbs. and standing around 34″ tall. I have 12 teeth now that are quite capable of chewing through human bone - just a theory, mind you. I’ve added some words to my vocabulary but still don’t really have a strong desire to astonish the old folks with my communication skills - that day will come and then they’ll be sorry I ever started talking!

Ok, the not-so-basics. I closed out Jan. with another mild ear infection that no one knew I had until a Doc took a peek, not fun but clears up relatively easy with the usual meds. This just happened to coincide with my 10 days living at Daddy’s place while Mom was recovering from surgery…Seems like more stuff is going on with them than with me…Maybe they should have a blog…Oh yeah, nevermind.

So, yeah, about staying with Dad…We had a pretty good time just hanging out…The usual stuff, like watching the backyardigans, playing with my toys, reading on my leap pad thingy, and other not so usual things like Dad cooking for me and giving me baths and putting me to bed and stuff…I must say, he did much better with that stuff than I would’ve guessed. Anyway, after that he had to go back to work and Mom started feeling a little better so I went home and let my presence be known by throwing things at Mom and my brother…She was sporting a minor black eye for a couple days from random sippy cup lobbing….Am I supposed to yell “Fore” or “incoming” or something to that effect? How’s a baby to know such things?

So, like I said, not a lot did happen but it could and this blog better not go another 2 months without an update or there’ll be hell to pay!

So, my second “New Year”…2006 was pretty good. I made some serious progress in the usual baby-progressive areas.

• A first birthday (and all the wondrous toys that accompany such an event )
• Packed on some pounds (an estimate but somewhere near 6 pounds gained in 2006)
• I’m quite a bit taller than I was (about 6 inches taller than 1-1-05)
• I grew some teeth (only 8 but they function like they should )
• Worked on my dexterity and fine motor skills and figured out how to work zippers and other fasteners (I can also type now but since no one seems to understand what I’m typing, Dad is still doing the blog thing for me )
• I’m much more stable and mobile (watch out! I can run now….Comin’ through!!!)
• A few words can be added to the list of spoken words that I posted some time ago but I’m still holding out ’til I have something really important to say.

As you can see, some great accomplishments and I’m sure 2007 will produce similar results…I’ll try to keep better track of such things this year to provide a more detailed year-end recap.

Can’t think of anything else, off hand…Hope I don’t make anyone feel slighted by not remembering

I’ve been sick for several days now and the big people didn’t think it was a good idea to take me out to visit. So, the Grandma visit got postponed ’til Wednesday…I heard she got me stuff too.

Anyway, sorry to all the folks that may have been waiting patiently for a new update, it seems that Dad has lost interest in maintaining his site…Give me some time to learn some web design or at least learn how to type for myself and we’ll be back on track.
Until then I’ll try to get on his ass about keeping people more informed of my progress.
